We began in 1965 as The Professional Photographers Association of Manitoba (PPAM) under the auspices of Kodak Canada Inc. and Winnipeg Photo Ltd. with all professional photographers in the province invited to attend. David Portigal was named President and the newly formed Association began its endeavours on behalf of the photographic profession in Manitoba.

1970 saw the birth of a national association, The Professional Photographers of Canada, created to provide the seven provincial associations with a stronger national voice.

PPAM was incorporated in 1984. The elected officers of the Association at the time were: Tim Evans, Don Kish, Keith Smith, Bill Synychych and Brenda Brodoway.

As constituent members of the national association, PPAM knew it would achieve greater recognition and credibility by changing its name to more closely reflect the national vision of professional photography. Therefore since 2004 we are known as Professional Photographers of Canada – Manitoba (PPOC-MB).
